Endodontics

Endodontics is the dental term for a “root canal” service.

What is a root canal and why would you need one?  A root canal is similar to a filling. The filling material (gutta percha) is placed within the roots of teeth after they have been properly cleaned and shaped.  The procedure is required when the nerve of a tooth has been traumatized physically, infected by bacteria, or both.

Generally, a tooth that is heat sensitive or hurts spontaneously (toothache) will require a root canal to eliminate the pain.

Every member of our team provides root canal therapy and some of our team members also provide endodontic surgery – a procedure where the tips of the infected tooth roots are removed.
